History of Trinity
Presbyterian Church
Trinity
organized in 1990 with plans for a beautiful new house of worship located on 6.2
acres at the corner of Mack and Ross Roads in Fairfield.
While construction was underway, the charter members of the church
worshiped at an office building just a few blocks away.
Trinity’s first worship service was on June 3, 1990, with 185 people in
attendance, and Trinity was officially chartered on January 13, 1991, with 98
members and 40 baptized children. Rev.
Wendy McCormick was called as Trinity’s first installed pastor from February,
1991, to August, 1997.
In
June of 1993, the new church was complete.
To mark the special occasion, the congregation joyously marched from its
temporary church location to its new Trinity home.
Rev. Suzan Zink was called as Trinity’s second installed pastor from
May, 1999, to October, 2001, and Rev. Nancy Lynch was called to began her
ministry as Trinity’s third installed pastor in June of 2004.
She and Session, Trinity’s governing body, are creating a vision for
the future for Trinity based on discerning God’s call for Trinity as a
community of faith.
Trinity
has always recognized that there is a spiritual hunger within many people, and
that people are searching for a personal relationship with God to address this
hunger. At Trinity, this
relationship has been nurtured through worship, through prayer, and by
searching, together, for answers to the question, “What is God calling us to
do?” As we have experienced
the different stages of life together, from the baptism of our newborns, to the
passing of our saints, we have also shared the common bond of God’s grace,
mercy, and love. We are witness to
the glory of God, and it shows in our faces.
One
of the many joys of being part of Trinity Presbyterian Church has been our sense
of community. We have taken seriously our mission as Christ’s body in
Fairfield by engaging in programs of work and worship.
Our members and our youth group have actively helped others by supporting
such missions as Shared Harvest, Habitat for Humanity, Open Door Pantry, Support
and Encouragement for Low income Families (S.E.L.F.), and prescription
assistance with Life Span.
The history of Trinity Presbyterian Church may be brief, but its existence and the passion and commitment of its congregation has proved to be a powerful force. We extend an invitation to everyone to join us in celebrating God’s love and compassion in our community for many more years to come.
Trinity's Demographics
Trinity's membership is now at 175. 9% are in the 25 and under age group, 20% in the 26-35 age range, 35% in the 36-55 age group, 25% in the 56-64 range, and 11% 65 and over. We average about 82 in Sunday school, including adult Sunday school. Our session consists of six men and six women and the Board of Deacons numbers nine, three men and six women.
Trinity's Theology
Our theology can be described as traditional-neither liberal or conservative. According to our congregational mission survey, most people regard their religious beliefs as the basis of their entire approach to life. Most continue to experience the presence of God in their lives and our congregation believes there is little, if anything, more important in life than their spiritual beliefs.
