What is the Fairfield Center for Reconciliation?
The Fairfield Center for Reconciliation is a community ministry of reconciliation through mediation. A facilitative model of mediation, with an emphasis on self-determination through the process of mediation, is used to encourage participants to craft their own agreements.
This
model is more of a “win/win” approach to mediation than more evaluative
methods in which the mediator serves as “judge.”
With mediation at FCR, conflict is resolved not by choosing or silencing
one side or the other, but by lifting up diverse voices to find the common
ground in both.
This common ground forms the basis of “both/and,” rather than “either/or,” agreements, thus encouraging and building community.
Establishment of the Fairfield Center for Reconciliation is made possible through a grant provided by the Peace and Justice Committee of the Presbytery of Cincinnati.
Why does Fairfield need a mediation center?
Fairfield is becoming increasingly diverse as a community, taking on some of the characteristics (and problems) of a larger city as it grows. Potential sources of diversity in Fairfield include the following:
The Center for Reconciliation provides a venue of conflict resolution for disputes that may arise as a result of this diversity, whether the conflicts originate in the courts, in the schools, in city government, in churches, in business, or anywhere within the community.
Where is the Fairfield Center for Reconciliation located?
The Fairfield Center for Reconciliation is housed at the City of Fairfield’s Justice Center. In order to ensure the safety of the mediators and the participants, mediations are scheduled during regular court hours to ensure that court officers will be present. All participants are required to go through metal detectors, as well.
Anyone interested in scheduling a mediation is invited to call FCR to schedule a mediation. Please provide the names and telephone numbers of the parties to the dispute so that the assigned mediator can contact them to schedule the mediation at a convenient time.
Who are our mediators?
FCR’s mediators represent an excellent cross-section of our community, with diverse backgrounds that enable FCR to mediate virtually any kind of dispute.
All of the mediators for the Fairfield Center for Reconciliation have completed a 40-hour class in facilitative mediation, taught by the Center for Conflict Resolution in Chicago, a well-known and highly-respected mediation training facility.
